The Santa Fe National
Forest is one of the five National Forests in New
Mexico. The National Forests are America's great
outdoors, here to serve the American people at work
and play. Some of the finest mountain scenery in
the Southwest is found in the 1.6 million acres
covered by the Santa Fe National Forest. Elevations
rise from 5,300 to 13,103 feet at the summit of
Truchas Peak, located within the Pecos Wilderness.
Our objective is to maintain that natural beauty.
Lincoln National Forest Temperatures also
vary with elevation. At higher elevations, 7,000
feet and up, summer nights are chilly 40º and days
are warm 78º, while winter temperatures can drop to
a -15º at night and rise to 40º-50º during the day.
At lower elevations, 6000-7000 feet, winter
temperatures rarely fall below 0 and usually run
from teens to 50s. Summer temperatures range from
50º to 85º. At the lowest elevations, 4,000 to
6,000 feet, temperatures are generally 10 degrees
higher throughout the year.

land, the Forest is the sixth largest National
Forest in the continental United States. The Forest
is also home to the first proclaimed Wilderness
area... (more) Some of the finest mountain scenery
in the Southwest is found in the 1.5 million acres
covered by the Carson National Forest. Elevations

to maintain that natural beauty.
