  • Santa Fe National Forest The Santa Fe National Forest is one of the five National Forests in New Mexico. The National Forests are America's great outdoors, here to serve the American people at work and play. Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.6 million acres covered by the Santa Fe National Forest. Elevations rise from 5,300 to 13,103 feet at the summit of Truchas Peak, located within the Pecos Wilderness. Our objective is to maintain that natural beauty.
  • Lincoln National Forest Temperatures also vary with elevation. At higher elevations, 7,000 feet and up, summer nights are chilly 40º and days are warm 78º, while winter temperatures can drop to a -15º at night and rise to 40º-50º during the day. At lower elevations, 6000-7000 feet, winter temperatures rarely fall below 0 and usually run from teens to 50s. Summer temperatures range from 50º to 85º. At the lowest elevations, 4,000 to 6,000 feet, temperatures are generally 10 degrees higher throughout the year.
  • Gila National Forest The Gila National Forest has spectacular scenery ranging from high cool mountains with aspen and Douglas fir to warm semi-arid lowlands with juniper, oak and cactus. It is one of the more remote and least developed National Forests in the southwest. Covering 3.3 million acres of publicly owned forest and range land, the Forest is the sixth largest National Forest in the continental United States.   • Cibola National Forest The Cibola National Forest is 1,949,637 acres in size. Elevation ranges from 5,000-11,301 feet. Our forest includes the Datil, Gallinas, Magdalena, Bear, Manzano, Sandia, San Mateo, Mt. Taylor, and Zuni Mountains. There are four wildernesses contained within our forest: the Sandia Mountain, Manzano Mountain, Withington, and Apache Kid. The Cibola National Grasslands are located in northeastern New Mexico, western Oklahoma, and northwestern Texas, and are 263,954 acres in size. Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.5 million acres covered by the Carson National Forest.
